
l)y six perpendicular orauge-yellow grooves. Base of mandible covered by a similar plate with six
diagonal orange-yellow grooves, narrower tlian those on the maxilla. Apical part of bill apparently
dark red, like the casque. Bare skin around the eye and upper part of throat flesh-eolour.
A broad black line starts from beneath the eye, extends backwards just beyoad the ears, and
follows the lower margin of the bare skin on the throat, becoming broadest in the centre. Rest of
luiad, neck, and underparts buffy white. Abdomen ferruginous; thighs and upper tail-coverts,
v(int, and rump ehestnut-red. Tail deep chestnut, until within two inches of the tip, when it
becomes black with a greenish gloss.
Total length without bill 20 inches, wings 10, tail 9|, bUl from eye to point length of
casque 1| , tarsus
7''ma/c.'.—Entire plumage black, with the exception of the tail, which is hke that of the male.
Bill similar but smaller.
