crossed hy three* or more prominent transverse ridges. A lùgli, upright, keel-shapcd casque,
swollen in the posterior portion, descending rapidly from the anterior terminus, rises from the
ciuitrc oi' the culmen about one third its length from the base, and extends backwiu-ds to the
middle of the head ; this casque is of a uniform deep red. Bare skin around the eye blue ; that
»n throat bluisli white, (frossed on the lower part by a narrow blaek line. Occiput and nape
chestnut. Sides of fac<! and neck and upper part of breast light tan-brown colour. Entire rest of
plumage of body and wings black, with greenish reflections. Tail pure white.
Total length inches ; wing 18 ; tail 11 ; bill along the gape 9, height at base with casquín
5 ; length of casque height in front from culmen 2| . These measurements arc taken from a
very line adult specimen, and possibly cxcoed the average.
Female.—Bill, casque, bare skin around eyes and throat, and the tail the same as the mah-,
rest of plumage black.
