T H I S bandfome annual is an old inhabitant of our hot-houfes, for it has been cultivated fo long ago
as the year 1731, by Mr. Miller; but from its charafter as an annual, our fummers not proving always
cm oLial to the perfeaing its feeds, it has at intervals been loft to us. It is a native of the Eaft Indies°
and in general, good feed may be procured by keeping the plants constantly in a hot-bed or hothou
e- but the betl method is to raife them on a ttrong hot-bed, keeping them there till m flower,
and then transferring them to the hot-houfe or dry-fiove, to per fea their feeds Our drawing was
taken from a finefpecimen, communicated by the Hon. W. H. Irby, from his feleft collea.on at the
Parfonage, Farnham Royal, Bucks. Flowers in May or June, and ripens its feeds in Auguft oi September.
