THIS beautiful divided leaved Protea has been named, as above, by Thunberg, in his DiflTertatio de
Protea, n. 7, and in his Prodromus plantarum capenfium 25. It is rather a delicate plant, and fubj
e d to lofe the lower leaves from the flera, which takes ibmething from the beauty of it's habit. The
young leaves, when they firil appear, have a downy character, which difappears as they grow firm.
The ftem has likewife, in its young Hate, a tendency to downinefs, which is not difcovered on the
old wood; and is, where the leaves are extant, quite covered by them. Jt grows to the height of three
feet, is propagated by cuttings, and flowers in the month of July. Our figure was taken from a plant
in the Hibbertiau ColleCtion, which was raifed from Cape feeds in 1800, fent from thence by Mr,
Kiven.
