L E E A and Aquilicia have, of late, been confidered as not poffeffing fufficient eifentially differing char
a a e r s to conftitute two genera, and Aquilicia has been loft in Leea. Our prefent fubjedl is a fpecies
of the former Aquilicias, is mentioned by Gaertner, who fays, it approaches A. fambucina, now Leea
fambucina; to which indeed it has much refemblance, but differs in having oppofite, not alternate
branches, being fcentlefs, having the leaves rather rough and the ftem fmooth, It is a native of the
Eaft Indies, requiring the tan-bed to make it flower; is half ilirubby, and is increafed by cuttings.
Flowers in Auguft. Our figure is from a fpecimen communicated to us by Aylmer Bourke Lambert,
Efq. whoTaifed it from feeds received from Dr. Roxburg, in 1801, under the name of Leea crifpa :
which is a native of Africa, and has been long in moft of our colleaions of hot houfe plants, but is in
the higheft ftate of cultivation, under the care of Mr. Hoy, in that of his Grace the Duke of Northumberland,
Sion Houfe, near Brentford.
