Ovtr progrefs along the coaft to the northward was very flow, and it was not
until the 19th that we fell in with the land, when we were nearly a-breaft o f the
Point named by Captain Cook Red Point. Before evening, however, we were
gratified with the fight o f the entrance into Botany Ba y, but too late to attempt
Handing into it with the tranfports that night. T h e convoy therefore was informed
b y Captain Hunter how the entrance o f the bay bore, and direcfted to be
very attentive in the morning when the Sirius made fail o r bore up.
When the morning came we found the fleet had been carried by a current ter
the fouthward as for as a clump o f trees which had the preceding day obtained,,
from fome refemblance in the appearance, the name o f Poft-down C lum p ; b u t
with the affiftance o f a fine breeze we foon regained what we had loft in th e
n ig h t; and at ten minutes before eight in the morning the Sirius came to a it
