■called the Indian raven o f Bontius, defcrjbed by Mr. Willughby,
p. 126, and engraven in tab. xvii. from Bontius, p. 6?, is another
kind, with a very thick bill, the upper mandible greatly incur-
vated; the temples »colored like thole o f the turkey .; the head
and neck black. Bontius gfves us no further defcrjptionj.but
fays it feeds on the nutmegs, is good eating, and has an aromatic
tafte.' All thefe birds .are very detrimental to the-plantations o f
this rich fpice. M. Salerne, p. 91, fay.s it is kept tame, and is
very ufeful in deftroying the rats and miGe. He .confounds the

they áre only webbed near the bafe, which is white, marked on
the outward fides with a pale blue foot; the ihafts are naked, and
black almoft to the ends, which are white, and dilate to the form
o f a Spatula. This foecies is o f the fizeo f a fiare. The natives
of Pernate call this bird the Goddefs, on account o f the exquifite
brightnefs of its colors.

furrounded with a band of black; back, wings, and tail o f the
fame color; on the two laft changing to bluiih green; throat and
neck white : inhabits Buero.

.of a rich red ; wings black, edges o f the feathers yellow; reft
of the plumage, grey above, green beneath, all moft glofiy and
brilliant. This foecies has a tubular tongue, and extraéis with
it the honey o f the flowers. It perhaps might be ranged among
the Melifuga.
