 This  species  is generally known under  the  trivial name  bollensis.  
 Loligo  bollensis  Zieten,  1832,  p.  49  is,  however,  preoccupied  by  
 Loligo  bollensis  Zieten,  1832,  p.  34,  which  is  a  synonym  of  Loligo  
 aalensis  Zieten,  1832,  p.  34,  and  belongs  to  the  genus  Loligosepia  
 Quenstedt,  1839  (cf.  p.  6).
