 present Prototeuthoidea cannot be congeneric.
Teudopsis bunelii Deslongchamps, 1835, was designated as the
 type of Teudopsis Deslongchamps, 1835, by v. B ü l o w - T r u m -
m e r in 1920. As this species is not congeneric with those included in
the genus Geoteuthis Naef nec Münster the name Teudopsis cannot
be used for the present genus.
Belemnosepia Buckland, 1836, is a name given to some remains
of Cephalopoda from the Lias of Lyme Regis. These remains were
 figured, but no species were named in B u c k l a n d’s publication
of 1836. The figured remains belong to the Belemnoidea and consequently
the name Belemnosepia cannot be used for a genus of
 Teuthoidea.
The only species cited in the original description of Loligosepia
Quenstedt, 1839, are Loligo bollensis Zieten **), and Loligo aalensis
Zieten, which are synonyms. Loligo aalensis Zieten, 1832, must therefore
be considered as the type of the genus Loligosepia. This
species is not congeneric with the species assigned to Geoteuthis by
 Na e f .
Acanthoteuthis Wagner, 1839, type A. speciosa Münster, 1839,
 designated by v. B ü 1 o w-T r u m m e r , 1920, belongs to the
Belemnoidea and therefore the name is not available for a genus
 of Teuthoidea.
 According to Na e f (1922, p. 125) Loligo aalensis Zieten should
be considered the type of the genus Belopeltis Voltz, 1840. N a e f’s
designation is valid, because this species is mentioned in the original
description of the genus as Belopeltis sinuatus Voltz. Belopeltis is
therefore another synonym of Loligosepia Quenstedt, 1839.
The only species recorded by name in the original description
of the genus Palaeosepia Theodori, 1844, is Loligo bollensis Zieten f)
which should therefore be considered the monotype of the genus.
Palaeosepia therefore also falls as a synonym of Loligosepia Quenstedt,
   1839.
*) The designation of “Ommastrephes*intermedius Grf. Münster sp.” as the type of
 Ommastrephes Orbigny by v. B ü l o w-T r u m m e r , 1920, is, of course, invalid.
 **) Q u e n s t e d t refers to pi. 25 fig. 6 of Zi et en, and consequently to the species
 which should be called aalensis Z i e t e n , 1832 (cf. note 1, p. 56).
 *) T h e o d o r i also refers to pi. 25 fig. 6 of Z i e t e n*s (cf. previous note).
