The revision is based on N a e f's excellent book „Die fossilen
Tintenfische”. The full literature has not been quoted with every
species, as it can easily be found in N a e f’s monograph, or in
v o n B ü 1 o w-T r u m m e r ’s catalogue of the Cephalopoda
dibranchiata issued in the Fossilium Catalogus. Unfortunately
the latter book is full of errors, especially of orthography.
Some changes of nomenclature are inevitable in order to bring
the names used into agreement with the International Rules of
Zoological Nomenclature. I have tried, however, to avoid any
unnecessary change.
