The beneficial effects produced on the sick in the squadron
by the plentiful supplies of fresh provisions, fruit, good water,
a clear sky and a dry atmosphere, soon enabled us to proceed
on our voyage. Accordingly on the 16th June, we set sail
from Turon bay, and on the 19th came in sight of the La-
drone islands and the continent of China. Under one of
these islands we anchored for two days, in order to communicate
with the commissioners of the East India Company at
Macao; after which we made sail for the strait of Formosa
and the Yellow Sea. Of the voyage up this sea, navigated
for the first time by European ships, and of our subsequent
travels on the-continent of China, I have had occasion to
enter, into a detailed account in another volume-
