presents as tokens o f his esteem, such as four
shields, sixteen spears, twelve knives, ten billhooks,
s ix walking-sticks, twelve finely prepared
skins and furs o f wild animals, 20 lbs. o f myrrh,
four white monkey-skins, ten beeves, sixteen
goats, bananas and beer and wine, and an escort
of one hundred warriors to proceed b y the lake
to Dumo.
For our mutual friend L u k on g eh , king o f
Ukerewe , he sent at my request five long tusks
of ivory, one comely virgin! o f fifteen as a wife
suitable for a king, being o f the beautiful race
of Gambaragara, also 20 lbs. o f fine iron wire,
six white monkey-skins, and one large new canoe,
capable o f carrying fifty men.
For my friend the king o f Komeh Island and
the lake shore o f Uzinja he sent the same , and
distributed beeves among the ambassadors from
the king, whom I had brought to receive these
presents.
From myself I sent to my kind friend Lukongeh
one bale o f assorted cloth, two coils of brass
wire, 60 lbs. o f fine beads, and two suits o f blue
and red flannel, besides a plush velvet rug.
