pucb's Island, Torres Straits (Reeve).
A single specimen from Albany Island belongs to the pale variety
(lig. 21«, Con. Icon.) with a reddisli-pink peristome, and has a remarkable
frond on the labrum, tho second from tho top, mcasuiing
55 millimetres in length. Tho tooth on the lahrum exhibits a
remarkable development in this species.

Hah. Port Jackson (Angas and Copphiger) ; Port Curtis (Gop-
pinger).
Mr. Sowerhy erroneously attributes this species to me ; the coarseness
of his figure renders it of but little use, th a t in the ‘ Proceedings ’
being far preferable.
20. Fnsns beptagonalis.
Reeve, Conch. Icon. fig. 26«, 5; Soiverhy, Thes. Conch, fig. 132,
Hah. - Port MoUe, Queensland (Coppinger).
The colouring of Sowerhy’s figure is totally incorrect, and it is not
nearly so accurate with regard to sculpture as th at in the ‘ Coucho-
logia Iconica.’ This species is not always heptagonal, the number
of ribs in three cases out of four being eight instead of seven. AVhen
in fine condition the spiral ridges of this species are finely imbri-
cately scaled by the parallel Avavy lines of growth. The only specimen
obtained by Dr. Coppinger is in a had state of preservation,
and of a considerably more dwarfed or stunted growth than the type
aud two other specimens in the British Museum. I t is, however,
adult, exhibiting the thickened lip and eight liræ within of an adult
sheU. The canal, too, is short, and the last whorl has an inconspicuous
pale zone around the middle, also observable in one of the other
specimens above referred to.
21. Fusus cereus. (P late V. fig. D.)
SheU short, ovately fusiform, pale yeUowish, ribbed, and transversely
scabrously lirate. AVhorls about 8, the remaining six
thickened beneath the suture by a stout ridge, then obliquely sloping,
angled at the middle and contracted a t the base, strengthened
with eight stout costæ, which are obliquely continuous up the sx)ire,
and crossed by four spiral squamose liræ, two of them around the
lower half of the whorls being tAvice as thick as the other two above,
and particularly prominent upon the ribs. The last volution, in
addition to these four, has about nino other equally stout liræ, exclusivo
of four or live finer ones upon tho extremity ; all are prettily
scaled. Tho aperture is ovate, contracted anteriorly into a short
canal, Avhich is much inclined to the loft. Tho columella is smooth,
covered with a th in callus, and the outer lip is armed within with
about six coarsish liræ. Length 18 millim., width 8 | millim. ; aperture
and canal 9 millim. long, 3 millim. wide.

Hah. Prince of Wales Channel, 5 -7 fms. (Coppinger) ; Philippine
Islands (Reeve); Bombay (W . T. Blanford) ; Japan for U. in-
nolahilis.
The operculum of this species resembles th at of Parpara. The
species is rather variable in form, the number of costæ, in colour, and
the length of the basal or anterior canal.
Tho typical form is rather longer, and has a more prolonged canal
than the variety from Japan, has more brown colouring, and an
additional longitudinal rib. All have from seven to eight elongate
denticles or liræ within the labrum, which is thickened within and
without, and acute and crenulated along the margin.
23. Tritonidea cnrtisiana. (Plate V. fig. E.)
Shell ovate-fusiform, yellow, handed Avith white round the middle
of the last whorl, with the ribs subalternately white also. A+lutions
about 8, obliquely coarsely costate, and spirally closely ridged, a
trifle convex. Costæ nine on a whorl, attenuated and produced
almost to the base of the last. Spiral liræ prominent on the ribs,
four in number on the upper whorls, and about sixteen on the last.
Aperture small, ovate, narrowed anteriorly, bluish white. Lip
thickened, furnished with about nine fine liræ reaching to the margin,
Avhich is dotted with dark brown between them. Columella
covered with a thin callosity, upon which rest eight or nine tran sverse
tubercles, Avith hroAvn dots between them. Length 14 millim.,
diam. 6g millim. ; aperture with caual 7 millim. long.
Hah. Port Curtis, 1-11 fms. (Coppingexj.
This speciesis represented in the j)resent collection by a single
specimen ; and it is remarkable on account of the peculiarity of its
colour, its small size, and comparative solidity.
