the nodules. Whorls 16, straight at the sides, encircled above at
the suture witb a prominent series of acute tubercles, and below
these by two or three other rows, which are much less elevated and
d istin c t; they aro also spirally striate-sulcate. Tbo body-whorl
has a swelling (scarcely a varix) on tbe left side opposite the outer
lip, terminates in a narrow and much recurved canal, and is sculptured
witb about ten narrow sulci. Columella bearing a conspicuous
callus reflexed over the cauda, and armed within with a single submedian
plait. Aperture oblique, produced above into a short, narrow
channel. Labrum only a very little thickened. Length 30 millim.,
diam. 9.

This speciea bears some resemblance to O. articulatum, Adams
and lleeve, especially as regards tbe aperture. I t may be distinguished
by tbe prominent row of acute nodules ju st below tbe
suture, the corresponding series in O. articulatum being smaller, so
th at the whorls at this part are narrower than below, whilst, on the
contrary, in tbe present species they are widest.

This is a most curious species, on account of the prominent canal
behind tbe aperture. Tbe apex of the spire in tbe single specimen
at hand, consisting of four whorls, is yellowish brown and finely
cancellated instead of noduled like the rest of the shell.
