p . purpurea, may have been that species. Dr. Sclater gives Mr. White’s locality as
Buenos Ayres ” in the ‘ Argentine Ornithology ’ (p. 25).
Numerous specimens have been obtained iu Mondoza, and a series from this
province is contained in the collection of tlie British Museum. The occurrence of the
species in Chili is very doubtful, and Dr. Philippi expressly names P. furcata as one of
the species which has been wrongly recorded from that country. Tho only autliority
for Its capture m Chili appears to be a specimen in the Britisii Museum, said to liave
been Obtained there hy Mr. Bridges; but the exact locality is not attaelied to tlie specimen,
and, in the days when Mr. Bridges collected, “ Cliili” would bo considered quite
exact for a bird which may iiave been obtained in Mendoza.
Tho specimens described and ligured in tbe present work are in the British
Museuni.
