This species is extremely rare in collections, and we only know of one specimen iu this
country. It was discovered more than fifty years ago hy the late Prince Maximilian of
Neunied, and since th a t time no one h u t the eelehrated traveller Natterer appears to
have met with it in th a t country.
Although Temminck, in the ‘ Planches Coloriées,’ states that the species figured
by him was the Ilirundo melanoleuca of Prince Max., the latter does not appear to have
actually published the name until 1831, and therefore Temminck’s 1)ecomes the first real
description of the species, the date of the ‘ livraison ’ iu which it appeared being 1823.
