AIr. A. J. N o r th has the following note:—“ This species is to be found throughout the
whole of Australia, Tasmania, and the southern portion of New Guinea. It arrives in
New South AA'alcs and Aviatoria in August, and leaves again at the latter end of
Fchruary. It deposits its eggs, three in number, on the decayed wood of a hollow
branch, or hole, of a tree. The ground-colour is of a pinky white, covered with minute
freckles of light rusty brown, particularly towards the larger cud, xvhcre, in some
instances, interrupted with lilac spots, they form a zone. Others, again, are pure white
with a few fine dots of light red. A set taken by Air. K. IT. Bennett at Alossgiel on
the 16th of September, 1883, measure as follows:—(a) 0-73x0'53 inch; (u) 0'72x
0-54 inch ; (c) 0-68X0 54 inch.
