Tlie -Burmoae speeimeua of this Desmid varied much in size, but their relfttivo proporfciors
ronmioed fairly constaut. All possessed a large undulation at tho bass of the semicells, and sjveral
smaller ones jost above it. The lateral nmigios aboTe the undulations were parallel and the apes
truneate.

I t is hardly possible to separate this variety from Ti. maainnm (ReinsoVi) Ijund., and it is
questionable whether it would not be better placed as a form of that species. The undulations
at the base ace variable, and the general proportions are much nearer those of PI. maximum.

This interesting species appears to be well characterized by reason of the niatoillate protuberances
across the base of the semioells. In side view it is even more charaoteristic, being unlike
any other Euastrum of its kind. It has only previously been recorded from Queensland.

Tho above description and measurements are taken from one of Joshua's origiDal specimens,
of which we also give a figure (PI. xiv, fig. 2).
Joshua gives 53/t ¡vs the length and 35/x as the breadth of his species, measurements wJiiob are
somewhat larger than his actual specimens. As we found in the case of E. Imnaatum, another of
Joshua's species ot which we published an amended description, that his measurements were also
longer thau any of the specimens we observed, we are inclined to think that Joshua's meaaurements
are no mora to be relied upon than his figures. We infer that Joshua's " lobie . . . . interne
conspootis distincte senatis " lefers to the rounded warts within the lateral lohes, but his description
lacks precision aud is very imperfect.
Forma angulis inferioribus lobi polaris miidentatis.
