which contain the gafl flowers, sessile, bro id; the periamh of 3 or 4 broad, lax, thin

Gall flowers with a perianth of 3 broad, ovate-rotund, distinct pieces; the ovary ovoid,
shining, smooth; the style short, lateral, with a rather large, infundibuliform stigma.
Fertile female flowers not seen.

This resembles F. variegoU, HI., in a general way, but has mnch smaller and more
pnbesccut leaves; the receptacles of this are also mud, smaller and more depressed tlian
ihose of V«.,i.g«.tii, and the male flowers are much smalk-r and broader. Besides those

collected by De Frètes, I have seen no specimens of this, and none of the receptacles of
his collecting contain perfect female flowers.
The vernacular name of this is miessoe. Count Solms Lanbach (JDoiamsrJte Zeiimq,
vol 44. p. 562) nieritions specimens which are preserved under the name imessoe in the
Herbarium at Baitenzorg ; but, as lie describes the pcriiinth of the gall flowers of these
as fimbriated in a remarkable nianner unknown in any named species of Ficvs, I conclude
til at the moessoe of Buitenzorg and that collected by De Kretes in Amboina must bo
difEerent jjlants. My descriptiaiis and figures arc founded upon De Fretes's original
specimens and they show no such peculiarity i;f the perianth as Count Solms Laubadi
uesc'ribes. Tliis Huitenzorg moessoe is probably a new species.
