N o t h o l æ n a s i n u a t a : — Root-stock short and thick, very
chaffy with narrow ferruginous scales; stalks short, covered,
when young at least, with ciliated scales; fronds six inches to
two feet high, rigid, narrowly oblong-linear, simply pinnate;
pinnæ numerous, short-stalked, coriaceous, roundish or ovate,
often somewhat cordate, obtuse, nearly entire or sinuated or
sinuately lobed; upper surface more or less sprinkled with stellate
or pinnately divided white scales ; lower surface and rachis
densely covered with ferruginous ovate or ovate-lanceolate ciliated
scales which conceal the sub-marginal sporangia.
