be produced equally sparingly.
Pilms 4-8 inches broad, exceedingly variable in form, being either qmte
sessile or obliquely stipitate, entire or lobed, sobtary, or several growing
together in a tufted manner, b u t rarely at aU imbricated. The substance
is very thick, soft, fieshy, viscid and juicy, especiaUy in a young state,
when a blood-like fluid is emitted if it be wounded : the fibres composing
th e substance are tenacious; a n d in tearing the pbeus, they are found
