Plant of a pale yellowish colour, investing the stems of filiform Alg® with
its numerous filaments, and giving them a most delicate feathery appearance.
Filaments nearly a line in length, exceedingly fine, transparent,
equal, somewhat rigid, b u t perfectly fiexible, fixed by their base,
very numerous, b u t neither fasciculate nor tu f te d ; the annular divisions
only visible in the most favourable light, and under the nicest management
of the microscope.
A most delicate new species, kindly communicated by my
friend Captain C a r m i c h a e l . Tbere can be no doubt of tbat
natm-alist being correct in referring it to tbe genus Calothrix;
for tbougb it is impossible to ascertain the structure, on account
of its extreme tenuity, the habit is too strong to be mistaken.
Captain C a r m ic h a e l observes that he has found it
in the same spot during five successive years.
