have favoured us o f the difeafes
that abound moftly in Iceland muft be
o f iioivcrial fervice to the Swedes.

fubjed:, my attention was peculiarly
raifed by the information you gave me
o f the Icelandic fcurvy, and o f its
dreadful confequences on thofe perfons
who were affecled with it.
Wffiat Mr. Peterfen calls the Icelandic
fcurvy, is the true elephantiafis,
which is nearly related to the leprofy.
CeJfus has defcribed it in the clays o f
Aoguftus under the name o f elephantiafis
