occurs under stories left dry by the receding tide. Like, the Dorides that inhabit similar
situations, it is very liable to crawl up the side of the vessel in which it is kept, and there
perish for want of moisture. In consequence of this , propensity to crawl out of the water, the
true littoral species-are all difficult to keep alive; the deep-water species, on the contrary,
rareiy venture above the surface of the fluid.
Epiis nana spawns in May, June, and July, or occasionally as late as August. The
spawn resembles that of E . olivacea, and is found on the under surface of stones.
