Pileus stipitatus aut latere affixus, subtus lamellis sporiferis, rectis, simplicibus.
Volva nulla.
Pileus furnished with a stipes, or fixed by its side, bearing on the under surface
straight simple sporuliferous lamellæ. Volva (wrapper) none.
S P E C IF IC CHARACTER.
A garicus pra ten sis \Jirmus, pileo subcompacto, glabro, convexo-expanso, soepis-
sime umbonato; lamellis crassis, subdistantibus, decurrentibus; stipite farcto,
brevi, deorsum attenuato.
Ag. firm ; pileus somewhat compact, glabrous, between convex and expanded,
mostly umbonate ; lamellæ thick, subdistant, decurrent ; stipes solid,
attenuated downwards.

Pikus convex, at length spreading towards the margin, but leaving the centre
generally more or less convex, as if umbonate ; glabrous, margin often
cracked, frequently contracted or lobed here and there ; cofowr buiEsh, reddish,
or brownish, varying in intensity. Flesh whitish, thick in the centre,
thin at the margin. Lamellæ distant, thick, 2 -4 in a set, decurrent, connected
