then the notaries of the committee o f war of the crown
fhall affume the place of the abfent commiffioner, and have
a vote; but when there is a requifite number, then the
notaries ihall only have a deliberative voice.
i . This committee of war ihall keep in order, and have
the direition of, the military archives.
3. Twice a year it ihall receive the reports of the troops
relative to the difcharge of their pay, and ihall fend them t®
the permanent council.
4 . Since the troops cannot fubfift without pay, nor fuffer
the leaft delay in that article, it is enacted, once for all, that
the committee of the treafury ihall be obliged to employ, for
the payment of thefaid troops, the firft money which it receives,
and which ihall be regularly delivered to the troops
every year on the 1 ft of April and the rft of Qftobet. If it
happens, that this payment ihall not be made at thefe ftipu-
lated times, the great general and the council of War ihall be
bound to acquaint the permanent council with this delay ;
and the permanent council ihall immediately authorize the
•great general and the council of war to procure the fums
deftined for the pay of the troops. - y
5. The committee of war ihall have the care of the military
cheft, and ihall pay all the troops according to the
eftabliihed calculation. The cheft ihall be provided with
three keys; one whereof ihall be kept by the great general,
or, in his abfence, by the prefident of the council of war;
the fecond by one of the commiffioners of war; and the
third by the caffiier.

7. No member o f the faid committee can be capable o f
being elefted nunfioat the next diet; but the commiffioners
may be taken from.the nuntios of the diet, or from other
nobles, v promifcuouily.
A third part of the commiffioners may be continued for
the next two years, if they-have the plurality of ballots-in
their favour. The fame holds good-.in.refpect to the fena-
tors : and thofe, .who are thus confirmed in their feats for
two more.years,xannot be elected the third time for the two
next years.
8. In other points, not contradictory to thefe articles,-the
committee of war of both nations are maintained in their
antient-rights-.
