T h e Caffer Cat, which to-day is a native of Africa only, was found in Pleistocene times in France, Belgium, and Britain.
The fossil remains of this animal that have been obtained are but few in number, it is true, but they are apparently sufficient
to prove that they belonged to a Cat identical with the existing F. caffra. M. Marcel de Serres (I. c.) and Dr. Schmerling
(/. c.) give figures of a lower jaw, and refer them respectively to F. fe ta and F. catm magna, probably meaning the Wild
Cat, F. catm. Messrs. Dawkins and Sandford consider the remains described by the authors mentioned above as too large
for a lower jaw of any Wild Cat that they have seen. The right lower jaw from Bleadon Cave, which they themselves
