HO O D O O D is the plural of Hidd; and Hidd in its primitive Definition of
fenfe fignifies obftruction; whence a porter or gatekeeper is Hidd-
termed the Hidddd, or obftrudtor, from his office of prohibting people
from entering. In law it exprefies the corredtion appointed and fpe-
cified by the law on account of the right of God, and hence the.
extenfion of the term Hidd to retaliation is not approved, fince retaliation
is due as a right of man, and not as a right of God-, and in the
