ground, 3 or 3 runners, each producing at its extremity a tnber smaller than that
of tho parent. Lmf broadly cordate or orbicular, str.mgly plicate. Flowers solitary
or in racemes, often pendulous. ISepals and petals snbequal, narrow, connivont or
spreading. Idp sometimes saccate at the base, adnate to the base of the column, rathop
narrow, the lower part convolute round tlie column; the lateral lobes small, 'usually
triangular; tho terminal lobe flat, ovato or orbicular, entire or fimbriate. Column elongate
clavato upwards; stigma anticous, oblong to orbicular. FoUmi, 2 or 4, elongate, often
cohering, but without either caudicle or gland.—Spccies about 70, i n Asia and America
and a few West Indian. '

Tuler globose, annular and warted, abont 1-3 cm. in diam. Leaf and scapo frequently
from the same tuber, but not contemporaneous. Leaf abont 5 cm. long and
broad, with a cordate base, 7-lobed; terminal lobe acute, the others rounded; principal
veins terminating at the ends of the lobes, with many less conspicuous intermediate
ones; petwU 2-0 cm. long. Scape l-flowered, about 10 cm. long when in flower
elongating till f.-uiting, enclosed within two or throe rather loose tubular sheaths. Fhwjs
spreading, shortly podicelled, 18 mm. long; tract erect, shorter than the cylindrical
truncate m-aiy. kepaU 17 mm. long, linoar-lanceokte, acuminate, light green blotched
wi h reddish.brown outside. Petals very similar to the sepals, but a little shorter and
not so acute at the apex. Lif shorter than the petals, oblong when spread out, stronglv
•i-nerved, white tinged with green towards the base; side-lobes erect, acute; termiL'i
