nodulosi. Rami novelli (v. caules plantæ junioris) a-6 pollices longi, erecti v. ascendentes, graciles v. fere filiformes,
virgati, teretes, nodulosi, foliosi, flexuosi, nunc simplicissimi, nunc secus apicem racemoso-ramulosi, apice interdum breve-
bi-v. tri-furcati. Internodia infima abbrcviata, reliqua foliis æqnilonga v. longiora. Folia (teste Sibthorpio pallide viren-
tia) herbacea, crassiuscula, plana, uninervia (nervo supra obsolete, subtus prominulo, ad basin crassiusculo, sursum sensim
attenuato ) , avenia , integer rima, acuta, quasi in brevem petiolum angustata,-in vaginulam brevem, concreta, pleraque
lanceolata v. lanceolato-oblonga, superiora oblonga vv elliptica. Folia ramorum vegetiorum 4-6' lineas longa', 1-1 1/2 lineani
lata. Folia ramorum macriorum et ramulorum axillarium subduplo minora. Flores ad ramorum et ramulorum apicem glome-
rato-cymulosi ( v. etiam ramulis axillaribus solitarii aut gemini), breve pedioellati. Cymulæ tri-v. pluri-floræ, subsessiles v.
breve pedunculate, dichotomæ, ramis vegetioribus ternæ, macrioribus solitariæ. Pedicelli calyce triplo plusve breviores,
erecti, crassiusculi, simulac pedunculi bracteæ et calyces dense hirtelli;1 laterales ebracteolati; terminales infra apicem bi-
bracteolati. Bracteæ berbaceæ; inferiores foliis summis consimiles at minores, floribus breviores; superiores et bracteolæ
lineares. Calyx fere 3 lineas longus, submembranaceo-herbaceus, albidus, oblongo-tubulosus , quinquecostatus (costis latis,
viridibus), avenius, prismalico-pentagonus (angulis costis respondentibus), quinquedentatus, intus glaber, extusdense hirtellus
( setulis .plerisque glandulosis) ; dentes erecti, æquales, deltoidei, apice subpenicillato-hirtelliv Petala breve exserta. Ungues
spathulato-lineares, sensim in laminam dilatati, calyce paululo breviores, tenerrime trinerves, antice juxta nervum medium
membranulis duabus parallelis angustis linearibus aucti. Laminae obovato-subrotundæ, obtusissimæ, integer ri mæ v. leviter
emarginatæ, exappendicu 1 atæ, albæ, supra basin zonula transversa semicirculari atropurpurea pictæ. F ilamenta capillaria,
glaberrima, basi dilatata concreta; 5 longiora demum breve exserta; 5 subduplo breviora, inclusa. Antheræ minimæ, ellip-
ticæ, didymæ, thecis discretis. Ovarium oblongum, distylum , uniloculare, breve stipitatum, i5-20-ovulatum. Styli subu-
lato-filiformes, staminibus longiores. Capsula calyce paulo longior, cartilaginea, lævigata, glaberrima, brunnea, oblonga,
breve stipitata, profunde quadrivalvis; valvæ rectæ, apice recurvæ. Semina non vidimus matura. (Exam. s. sp. )
Crescit Archipelagi insula Naxo ( Tournejort ! — Olivier e t Bruguière /), nec non Euboea (Sibthorp)
et in Hymetti cacumine {De Heldreich /).
Saponaria T hessala, Nob. {Gypsophila thymifolia, Aucher-Éloy î Cat. n° 566, in Herb. Mus. Par. ; non Sibth,
et Sm.), a Saponaria polygonoide differt : partibus herbacêis molliter hirsutis, ramis floridisdichotomo-panicula-
tis , floribus longe pedicellatis alaribus (solitariis) terminalibusque (geminis et ternis), calycis subcylindracei
dentibus sensim acutatis ecuspidatis. Crescit in Thessaliæ montibus.
Saponaria thymifolia, Boiss., Diagn. {Gypsophila thymifolia, Sibth. etSm., Fl. Gr. tab. 388! exclusa Saponaria
hirsuta, Labill.), solummodo partibus herbaceis incano-tomentellis, floribus parcioribus laxius cymosis 7
petalisque immaculatis recedere videtur.

foliis et calycibus simillima) petalorum lamina spathulato-cuneiformi immaculata differt.
