S pic u læ brevissime pedicellatæ v. sessiles, in spica simplici unifariæ v. alternæ,
solitariæ, rhachi paralleled a latere compressiusculæ, 3-io-floræ, omnes fertiles : flore
summo tabescente, unipaleaceo ; floribus reliquis hermaphroditis, bipaleaceis. Spicularum
lateralium valvæ dissimiles. Spiculæ terminalis valvæ æquales v. subæquales, conformes.
R hachis continua, gracilis, semi-teres v. triquetra, ante spiculas concava. G luma bivalvis,
persistens. V alvæ alternæ, submembranaceæ, naviculares, carinulato-uninerviæ. V alva infe
r io r rhachi proxima, adpressa, spiculis inferioribus minima mutica, spiculis superioribus
gradatim major (spicula terminali interdum æquilonga valva superior!), cuspidulata v. nervo
excurrente aristulata. V alva superior rhacheos respectu externa, major,, cuspidulata, v.

chartaceo-herbacea, navicularis, carinulato-trinervia (nervis æqualibus, filiformibus, in

cinias longe aristata, laciniis brevius aristatis, aut profunde trifida, laciniis lateralibus
abbreviatis aristatis, lacinia media apice bilobulata inter lobulos aristata. Aristæ rectæ v.
irregulariter tortuosæj exarticulatæ. P alea in tern a membranacea, hyalina, carinato-binervia
(carinis marginatis, ciliolatis), lanceolata, exaristata, apice emarginato v. truncato fimbrio-
lata, dorso complicata, marginibus inde a nervis indexa. P alea florum neutrorum conformis
paleæ externæ florum fertilium at membranacea et triplo plusve minor. S quamulæ- hypo-
gynæ geminæ, minimæ, glabræ, cunéiformes. Stamin a 2 v. 3. F ilamenta capillaria, tener-

Gramina perennia v. annua, multicaulia, dense cæspitosa. R adix fibrosa. F olia plana v.
filiformi-iuvoluta, secus apicem sensim subulato-attenuata. Spicæ solitariæ, terminales,
graciles, elongatæ, multi-spiculatæ, uni-v. bi-fariæ. F lores cujusve spiculæ ad rhachillam
filiformem elongatam insertionibusbarbatam et calloso-articulatam altérai, distichi, sessiles,
superiores inferioribus gradatim parum minores. G lumellæ fru c tiferæ singulatim deciduæ.
Genus e Chloridearum tribu, Eutrianoe et Leptochlooe affine, nec ullo modo cum Danthonia confundendum.

feriorum valva-inferiori inæquilatero-ovata v. ovato-lanceolata, hinc infra medium in lobulum v.
