GEN ERIC CHARACTER.
Receptaculum 0. Sphoeruloe duriusculoe, sparsæ vel aggregatæ, sub epidermide
insidentes, ore nunc depresso nunc elongato, quandoque nulh ; intùs massa
gelatinosa sporulifera instructæ.
Receptacle 0. Spherules corneous, scattered or aggregate, lying beneath
the epidermis, with the mouth depressed, elongated or wanting, containing
a gelatinous sporuliferous mass.

C r y p t o s p h æ r i a Tamariscinis; sparsa, sub ramuhrum epidermide, valde convexa,
centro rupta, ostiolo brevissimo, non exserto, Sporuloe in cellulis Jili-
formibus.
C. scattered, under the epidermis of the branches, very convex, and ruptured
in the centre; the orifice very short, concealed. Sporules contained in
filiform cells.

Spherules scattered, gregarious, roundish, slightly depressed, the spherules
giving a dark hue to the very convex epidermis, which is ruptured, but
not raised in the centre. Orifice very short, obtuse, not exserted. Sporules
yellow, contained in filiform hyaline cells ; the latter intermixed
with other filaments.
A neat looking species, answering extremely well to the
generic character, being indeed only visible by the dark and
convex minute portion of the epidermis. The generic character
is here amended, for I have found that the sporules are not
invariably naked, and have stated, under Sphceria verrucosa
