Planta epiphylla, depressa, subgrunwsa vel serìcea, v d filamentosa, ex tubis cy-
liiidricis vel compressis, clavatis aut turbinatis, in cæspitulis latis congestis,
composita.
Plant epiphyUous, depressed, subgrumose, velvety, or filamentous, composed
of cylindrical or compressed, club-shaped or turbinate tubes, collected
into broad tufts.

E rineom pyrinum ; hypophyllum sparsum vel subeffusum, spadiceum, tuhis
compressis, linearibus, sublaxis, apicibus clavatis sæpe truncatis.
E. hypophyllous, scattered or subeffused, rich reddish-brown. Tubes compressed,
linear, somewhat lax, with the apex club-shaped, and often
truncate.

White in its young state, gradually changing to a very rich reddish-brown ;
scattered in an irregular manner over the leaf, in tufts or spots of no precise
form; sometimes becoming partially confluent. Tubes lax, entangled,
rather long, linear, compressed, club-shaped, and cylindrical at
the apex, frequently truncate, and of a deeper colour, as viewed under
the microscope.
For this handsome and rich species, which is of considerable
rarity, I am indebted to the kindness of Miss A n n a W a u c h ,
who, in company with her brother Captain W a u c h , discovered
it for the first time in Scotland on Craigie Hill. Soon afterwards,
