This Goose is a winter visitor to our islands, more
common in Ireland and certain districts on the west
coast of Scotland than elsewhere. The Arctic regions
of Asia are said to be the principal breeding-resort of
this species, whose nest has never as yet, I believe, been
discovered in any part of Europe. The cry of the
White-fronted Goose has gained for it the nickname of
Laughing Goose, and is certainly very unlike that of any
of its British congeners, from whom it also differs in the
excellence of its flesh for the table.
Anser albifrons (Qmelin).
