Hab. In parte scptentrionali regionis Neotropica*.
Male. Whole head, neck, throat, and upper part of the breast rich scarlet; lores and
chin black; a narrow verditer collar separating the red of the neck from the green of the
back, which, together with the wings and tail, is dark green; quills brown edged with pale
yellow at t h e base of the inner web, the outer web of the primaries edged with green at the
base, t h e secondaries more broadly edged with green, especially the innermost, which are
almost entirely of the latter colour; tail dark green above, pale green below; breast red,
shading off into bright golden yellow on the abdomen and sides of t h e body; flanks, feathers
