T he specimens collected from the Wild Cat probably had
transferred themselves to that animal from a Rabbit on which the

. So far as the European animal is concerned, no Flea is known.
. Ceratophyllus or Trichopsylla metis, Curtis, B r it. E n t. vol. ix. no. 417,
1832.
P u le x globiceps, Taschenberg, D ie F löh e, p. 66, no. 6, pi. ii. figs. 10,

Only found on Continental Foxes.
P u le x goniocephalus, Taschenberg, op. cit. 1880.
P u le x erinacei, Bouché, op. c it. 1835.
There is apparently in Britain no Flea which is a genuine
parasite o f the Fox. T he few examples which have been examined
have yielded C . metis, usually found on the Badger, and P . erinacei
and P . goniocephalus, two species usually found on the Hedgehog and
Rabbit respectively. On the Continent P u le x or Chcetopsylla globiceps
is occasionally found on the Fox, and it would probably be observed
in this country if a close search were made.

These two Fleas have been recorded from the Brown Bear
in Europe. It is probable that they are really identical, the records
being from North Italy and Norway respectively. Nothing but an
accurate comparison o f the types could settle the point : they are in
any case closely allied.
. No Flea recorded.
. Ceratophyllus metis, Curtis, op. cit. 1832.
T he Badger is apparently the true host, though this Flea is
occasionally found on Foxes.
. Ceratophyllus sciurorum, Bouché, op. cit. p. 506, 1835.
P u le x goniocephalus, Taschenberg, op. cit. 1880.
Only a few Fleas have been secured from this animal in the
British Islands. It is not unlikely that these have transferred themselves
from the fur o f the prey o f the Marten (Squirrels or Rabbits,
for example).
. Only one single specimen o f a Flea, Typhlopsylla bisoctodentatus, Kolen.,
has been secured in Britain from the Polecat; it is therefore
impossible to say what the true Flea o f the animal is.
