Many experienced hunters assure me that these Whales make no cry when
massacred, but others declare that they squeal like pigs or bellow louder than
an ox. In the excitement and noise of the slaughter it is evidently difficult
to distinguish between human and Cetacean sounds. Herds of these Whales
are occasionally driven ashore at Loch Seaforth, Harris, and a small number
were chased into Thurso Bay out of the Pentland Firth on June 19, 1899.
