The hill and forest of Labatie are represented on the right. At the basis of tliis Itill runs the polluted
Arve, a river that mingles its muddy waters with the Rhône at the foot of St. Jean, another mountain on the left,
as described in the article of Geneva. The lake is distinguishable near the back of the city. The Voirons form
the back-ground; and the two Salêves, whose feet are literally hid by the hills of Cologny, a
conspicuous.

V E R S O I X .
A village on the Lake of Geneva. The smaQ dots discernible in the water, close to the isolated habitation,
bnilt, as it were, in the lake, indicate the remains of the harbour, began five-and-twenty years ago by order of
Lewis XV. of France, as explained in (he description of the above village. The château in the back-ground,
with the four square towers, is Copet, belonging to M. Neckar; and the most distant mountains, a continuation
of the Jura.

This view was taken norlh-west of the city, at some little distance from (lie high road to Berne. The
chateau, conspicuous on the hill which commands the town, is the baililTs residence : the catiitdral stands n
it; and the chain of mountains, in the back-ground, are those of Savoy; at the bases of which, and close to tlie
banks of the lake, are the pleasant villages of Evian, Ripaille, and ThOnon.

The pleasantcst town in Switzerland. This view was Uken from Uie north end of the town, nearly contiguous
to the roaii tliat leads to the canton of Freyburg. The stupendous rocks in the back-ground, on tlic right
of ilie drawing, are partly in Savoy and partly in the Vallaisan country. At no considerable distance from the
:c whicli rears iu head on the same side, close to the edge of tlie lake, slan<! the famous rocks of Meillerie
; while the mountains on the left form the basis of what is called La Dent do Gamcnt ; and a part of the
Great St. Bernard, crowned with eternal si
