A wide-twining climber with woody pubescen-t branches and stems; ieaws 3-foholate,

glabrescent branches; leaves 3-folio!ate, 22—24 cm. long ; leaflets dull-green above,
paler beneath, subcoriaceous, when young sparsely hairy on both surfaces but early
becoming glabrous above and glabrous except for a few adpressed hairs on the nerves
beneath, ovate, shortly acuminate, with subtruncate base, 13"5 em. long, 8 cm. wide,
petiole 10 cm. long, channelled above, sparingly adpressed-hirsute ; petiolules 6 mm.

The vexillavy stamen in this species is free at the base but not above ; it is
rather shorter than the others and bears a perfect anther ; the anthers of the 9 stamens
forming the sheath are alternately perfect and abortive; there are thus 5 perfect anthers
on the sheath and a sixth perfect anther on the vesillary stamen. This structure provided
Roxburgh with the excellent specific name that has usually been overlooked.

plant, a copy is now given of Roxbui-gh's original figure.

gland 5 mm. above the base of the main-rachis and with large projecting
on each secondary rachis at the bases of the distal pairs of leaflets ; leaflets ovatelanceolate,
acute or subacute, 10—14 on the distal 6—8 oa the proximal pinna;, in all
cases ecreasing slightly downwards, base cuneate from the middle, I'o—5 cm, long,
1—2-5 cm. wide, pale-green above, glauceeceat beneath, sparsely adpressed-puberulous on
both surfaces; stipules minute; heads many-flowered, panieled, the ultimate branches of
the panicle umbellate ; calyx 2 mm., campanulate, shortly pedicelled, puberulous externally,
teeth minute; pedicels '5 mm, long; cm-olla 4 mm. long, teeth oblong-lanceolate;
filaments about 25, 7 mm. long, connate in their lower third; j^orf 15—20 cm. long,
2- 5 3.25 cm. wide, thin, rather firm, strap-shaped, the base narrow-cuoeate, the tip
blunt, pale straw-coloured, very faintly reticulate; seeds 6 - 8 , irregularly oval,
10 mai. long, 6 mm. wide, 1*5 mm. thick, testa brown, dull, lateral areola faint.
