This species might with almost equal propriety be referred to the subti-ibo Galactiece,
especially to the section Collcea of the genus Galaotia itself where also the vexillary
stamen is connate with the remaining nine, or to the subtribe DioGhce, especially to
t h e genus Pueraria of which it exhibits most of the characters though it differs
very markedly in having 5-foliolate loaves. From both Galactia § Colima, and Pueraria
our plant, however, difíers still more markedly in having the style bearded round the
stigma after the fashion of certain of the Euphaseolem, and it seems therefore preferable
to treat, it as the typo of a distinct genus, bearing to -the other Dioclece very much
tho relationship that Clitoria bears to the rest of the ClycinecB.

MALAYAN PJÍNINSUIJ. : Perak, at Larut, Kunsiler nn. 3830! 6870 ! 6935 V
The genus Künstlerin was founded by the writer to accommodate 5 evidently
congeneric Malayan species with the habit of Spatkoluhus and with the calyx and
almost the corolla of tliat genus. This new genus however differs from Spaiholobvs
in having its flowers solitary instead of fascicled oa tumid nodes; in having exstipollate
leaflets varving in number in different species f r om 1—7 ; in the present species
only one of tho many specimens seut by Künstler had a leaf with a solitary leaflet
all tlie other leaves boing 3.foHolate. Another point of difference between Kumtleria
and Spathololvs is that tlie pods of the former are quite indehiscent with the seeds
situated centrally and not tern)inaily; in this respect therefore Kunsileria is not distinguishable
from Lonchooarpus. From Lonchocarpus-, however, Kunsiler ¿a differs in
ha%'ivig unfascicled flowers, in having a toothed calyx and in having diadelphous
stamens. As regards inflorescence Kimileria agrees exactly with tho species of Dcrris
that constitute the section Ac/anope and agrees moreover with that group of species
in having the vexillary stamen free. But here again Eunstlcria differs in having a
•wingless pod and a toothed calyx, and in having the free stamen slightly adnate to
the standard claw. With the calyx of Spatliolohis therefore we find combined in
Kwvstleria the pod of Lonchocarpus and the inflorescence of Aganope. The genus is
dedicated to t h e memory of the late Herr H. H. Kmistler.
