 ^  Some of the cinereous  killas confift  of thin  lamince  laid  in  ftreightj-  
 lines  one  over  another*;inr like  manner  asrilat, ,tq which ftapproacha^

 of  it.’  Its  mafles  however  are  larger  thftn theft* of  the  Helfton  
 quarry,  but  more  fpungy,  fuJbjeQ:  to „hofft  places,  and  ipoft:  apt  to  
 decay ,and  g i v e w a y t h e   weather.  Of  this  ftone  is,built  the  
 fioufe tat  Nanfwhydn,,  Plate VIII. 
 In many  places thje  quarry-ftone  of .the  brown  ferruginous  killas  
 rifes  large  and  hard,  and  with  this  they  build  in  thetWeftefri  parts  
 o f  Cornwall,  and  in  the Eaft  at Camelford,  Lancefton,  and  elfe- »  
 where;  'but  it  is  fubjedt  to  the  lame  inconveftencyvqf damps  as  the  
 yellow  before-mentioned.  In  ibme  places  it  rifes  in  fuch  large  
 i-flakes,' f t  eafy  for working,  and  they may  be  laid  ofytheir  edge "io  
 clofe,  that  they  prove  excellent  materials  for  building  piep  and  
 moles  into  the  fea;  the beft  I  have  yetfteard  ofy.is  that which  rifts  
 jpn  the  parftnage  grounds  of.Mawnan,  from which  a  great  deal  is  
 carried  off  yearly  fpr  building  and  repairing the Kayes  at Falmouth, 
 St. Maws,  and  other  trading  towns  in  that  harbour. 
 On  the  South  coaft,  betwixt Lilkerd  and  the  Tamar,  there  are .s&c.T.y.  
 fome  quarries;  of  fiat;  which  is? brought  „dojyn  and  .fhipped  off  at  .SIat-  
 Tidiford  and Morlham,  and,  by means  of  the Tamar,  lupplies  the  
 i neighbourhood of Plymouth with  covering  „Jbi*  their houfes,  and  is  
 fthence  exported in pretty  large  quantities:,  there  are  alfe^fomfe quarries  
 of  fiat  at Padftqw on,  the l|o,rth  coaft,  whence,  for m^y mifes  
 to  the  Eaft,  the whole  country,is  fubjedfto  a  fhelfy fiat.  There  is  
 a  better  quarry  ftill  at Tindagel.;.  but  the  beft  covering,fiat which  
 we have  in  Cornwall,  and  indeed  ft'  all  England, ' ft^p^jpis  ^  .
