 S P E C I F I C  CHARACTER.  
 Ixia  foliis  radicalibus,  eniiformibus;  floribus  
 capitatis,  confertis,  aurantiis,  petalis  bafi  
 obfcuiis.  
 Ixia  with  leaves  growing  from  the  root,  and  
 fword-fliaped;  bloflbms  grow  in  a  clofe  
 bunch,  gold  coloured,  and  the  petals  dark  
 at  the  bafe.

 T H I S  variety  of  Ixia  capitata  was  introduced  at  the  fame  time  as  the  Ixia  bulbifera,  flore  luteo,  viz.  
 in  1784,  by  Meffrs. Lee  and  Kennedy,  Hammerfinith,  from  the  Cape  of  Good  Hope,  and  requires  
 the  farne  treatment.  It  flowers  the  latter  end  of  May,  or  beginning  of  June;  propagating  itfelf  
 abundantly  by  the  root,  which  produces  annually  numerous  young  bulbs.
