t y Juft as -I am doling this work, I find-the following article inferted in the foreign newspapers,
dated Oviedo, April is , 1780: The Count de Tqrena and Father Ignatius Buenaza
have been employed upwards o f a year, by orders o f the council o f Gallile, in examining fe-
yeral mines o f ocre and various coloured alum. They have lince difcovcred an exceeding line
quarry o f alaballer, abounding with the molt beautiful hones, held by tneconnoiffeurs to be equal
inwhitenefs to thofeof Mount Taurus^ Ours are however larger and more proper for columns
.and ilatues.* They have alfo examined a mine o f jet, the Hones o f which much referable thofc
o f Calcite. Great quantities of pit coal are found in the neighbourhood o f Coboalles. In.
■the diftriA o f Cangas they have difcovered a mine of flones refembling agate and alaballer;
and in the hamlet Of Carre (in they found a cryllal which has the brilliancy of a diamond.
