Upper-ftde.— T h e Antenna are black and a little
pe&inated j being thickeft towards their extremities,
and ending in a point j where, by the affift-
ance o f a microfcope, may be obferved a fmall tuft
o f hairs.— T h e Head is afh colour.— T h e front
o f the Eyes is light, but the back parts are brown.
— T h e Thorax and Abdomen are dark hair colour j
the latter being encircled with fmall white rings.
— T h e Superior Wings are narrow, and of a dark
hair colour, without any marks or fpots.-—The
Inferior are traniparent like the fineft glafs} the
fringes being dark brown.
Under-Jtde.— T h e Palpi are yellowiih.— T h e
Tongue is curled up.— T h e Breaji and Abdomen are
yellowiih, having fome grey hairs placed between
them.— T h e fore Legs are dark brown.— The
middle ones the fame, and a little hairy.— The
hinder Legs are remarkably hairy; being fcarlet on
the out-fides, and black on the inner'and under-
iides, with fome white tufts intermixed.— All the
Wings appear the fame as^on the upper-fide.
I received it from Sierra Leon in Africa.

Ufper-fide. — T h e Antenna are black, and
thickeft in the middle.— T h e Head, Eyes, Thorax,
and Abdomen are black.— T h e Shoulders and half
the Superior Wings are o f a deep yellow, almoft
an orange ; the other half, being that next the
tips,l#f black.— About a third part o f the Irferiorf
Wings, next the body, are yellow ; but not fo
deep as that of the fuperior : the remaining two-
thirds are black.
Under-ftde.— T h e Tongue ||| curled up.'— T h e
Breaji, Sides, Abdomen, and Legs are black.—
A ll the- Wings appear the fame colour as on the
upper-fide, but not quite fo brilliant.
I received it from New England ; the fame fpe-
cies is found at New York, Maryland, Virginia,
and Carolina.
I have not feen it in any author.

Le DeJJus.— Les Antennes noires et un peu pec-
tinées, étant plus epaiiles vers leurs extrémités, et
finiiïent en une pointe ; ou, par le fecours d’un,
microfcope, l ’on peut obferver une petite pelotte
de poils.-r-La Tête cendrée.— Le devant des Yeux
eft clair, mais par derrière ils font bruns.-—Le
Corcelet et Y Abdomen couleur de poil obfcure, le
dernier étant environné de petits anneaux blancs.
— Les Ailes Supérieures font étroites, et d’une couleur
de poil obfcüre, fans marques ou taches.—
— Les Inférieures font tranfparentes comme du
plus beau verre ; les franges étant brunes obfcures.
Le Dèjfous. — Les Antennuies jaunatres.l|~La
Trompé eft repliée— La Poitrine et Y Abdomen jaunâtres^
avec quelques poils gris placés, entre eux.
— Les Pieds de devanilibruns obfcurs ; ceux du
milieu de même, et un peu chevelus.— Mais les
Pieds pofterieurs font remarquablement chevelus,
étant ecarlates en dehors, et noirs en dedans et en
deiTous, avec quelques pelottes blanches entremêlées.—
Toutes les Ailes paroilïènt de même qu’en
deiïus.

Le Deffus.— Les Antennes noires, et plusepaiflès
au milieu.— La Tête, , les Yeux, le Corcelet, et
Y Abdomen noirs.-—Les Epaules et la moitié des
Ailes Supérieures font d’une couleur jaune foncée,
prefque orange ; l’autre moitié, étant celle près
des bouts, eft noiré.— Environ un tiers des Ailes
Inférieures, près du corps, eft jaune y mais point
li foncé ,'que dans les fupérieures : les deux tiers
reliants font noirs.
Le Dejfoüs.— La Trompe eft repliée.— L a Poitrine,
les Cotés, Y Abdomen i et les Pieds font noirs.
— Toutes lés Aîles paroilïènt de la même couleur
qu’en deiïus, mais noii point fi brillantes.
Je l’ai reçeu de la Nouvelle Angleterre j mais
cette efpece fe trouve aulïi à la Nouvelle Y o rk,
Maryland, Virginie, et la Caroline.

bruns obfcurs— La Tête couleur de crème, tachée
de noir ; comme aulïi le Cou, avec une fente ou
ouverture rouge au milieu, et une tache noire de
chaque côté.— Le Corcelet couleur de crème, taché
de noir.— L ’Abdomen ecàrlate.— Les Aîles Supérieures
font tranfparentes, defquelles un tiers, près
des bouts, eft opaque et d ’une couleur de poil
