Curiojity of feeing his Cabinets-fiored with the Portraits of
the Animals and Vegetables Nature has placed under his
Dominion: thefe would be attended with aPleafure peculiar
to themjelves, as they would reprefent Originals fubfijling to
the latejl Generations I for Nature is fo uniform in the Structure
of the whole Species, that the Picture of an Individual will,
to an human Eye, at leajl ferve for a Reprefentation of any
of the Species (the Sex only excepted.) Befides thefe are not
liable to the Calamities the Originals of the King of France’s
Models of his Towns were, whofe Beings might have been
dejiroyed by a Marlborough and victorious Army; whereas
a Butterfly ,and Bird preferve their Species amidjl the Ravages
of a Kingdom, and the feebleji Genus of Plants maintain
their Kind under the Peet of the Grand Signior s
Horfe. Such a Collection perhaps would not boajl that Pomp
and Gaiety a Gallery filled with Rarities feleCted from the
difiant Kingdoms of the World would do. However thefe
I mention feem to have a Claim to the Patronage of the Prince
whofe Subjects they are, and to deferve his peculiar Study
and Obfervatiott.
