WID D A , in the language of the l a w , fignifies a perfon empowering
another to keep his property.— The proprietor of
the thing is ftiled Modee, or the depofitor;— the perfon fo empowered
the Moda, or t r u j l e e and the property fo left with another, for the
purpofe of keeping it, is ftiled Widdeeyat, becaufe Widda literally
means to leave, and the thing in queftion is left with the Modd
