A jourii; riiiile, |nissing to the adult plumag^e, is in Mr. Rothschild's collection. It is nearly
velvety black like llie adult, but still retains a considerable amount of the first plumage, which must
have been like that of the adult female. The metallic inner secondaries, when first developed in
the male, appear to be of a deeper blue than in tlie adults, while the metallic patch above the eye seems
to be more purple than in the full-j)luuiaired male.
The Plate represents an adult male and female of the size of life, and the figures are drawn
from tlie type specimens liinilly lent to me by Mr. De Vis. The descriptions are taken from the
speciiueTis in the Trini;- Museum, and for the opportunity of describing them I have to present my
best acknowledgments to the Hon. Walter Rothschild.
