The converfation being at an end, Captain W ilson
taking leave returned to acquaint the officers and people
on fliore with what had pafled at this conference, which
he hoped would meet with their approbation. All united in
faying that he had a£ted with great propriety, and feemed
happy to find that they-were again on thé fame good footing
with the natives; therefore, that the King might fee
th ey were ready, and wanted no preparation, the Captain
went off once more to inform him, that the men would
be at his orders whenever he pleafed. This promptitude
pleafed him much, and he in a very diftindt pointed manner
told Captain W ilson , that he was his brother Rupack,
and that he fhould regard the Englph officers and people as
his own people; and that the Captain muft fond his brother,
Mr. M. W ilso n , again to Pelew, -to foe what things
were there for the Englijh to eat, that they might be font
th em ; adding, that he would order fome o f his carpenters
to com e-and affift them in building their v effe l; but this
offer the Captain declined: and having finiflied what he.
had to fay, he then departed with his attendants to the
hack o f the ifland, notifying that he fhould return for the
men the next morning. Captain W ilso n , as before, informed
his officers and men o f all that had paffed with the
King.-—In the afternoon the Ways Were la id ; the keel, item,
and ftem-poft Iquared, as alfo fome o f the floor-timbers.

for the men: he had been promifed; Captain Wilson,
on offerin|’ to make one'of We number, was refufod by
hfe fown people, who declared that he rauft not e^ppfo
himfelf, -as all their fafeties depended on him. Every:

arms and ammunition. The King made .but a fhort f la y ; he
faid fie ftiould leave four o f his own men with, our people,
that they were fuch as might be trailed, that the expedition
would be over in four days, and that all imaginable care
fhould be taken o f the men who were to attend him. He
went away in great friendlhip, fhaklng all the Engli/h by
the hand. Our people accompanied their companions,..when
they departed, -to the water edge, and as they moved from
the fhore in the cove, gave them-three cheers, the firft of
which was only returned b y the Englif^ but the Mnguill
