our people, who conftantly obferved i t ; yet on vifits, or oe-
cafional rejoicings» they appeared to relifh their fweet drink,
and flierbet, which latter had only the addition of fome j nice
of orange.
They rofe in general at daylight, and as foon as they were
up, both men and women went to bathe in frefh water: they
had feparate bathing-^places; and every man, whofe bhfinefs
led him near thofe appropriated to the women, was obliged
to make feme particular halloa, which, if anfwered by w ffe#
male voiqe, he cotdd not go on, but either turned another
way, car waited till the women who were bathing had left the
water.
About eight o’clock was their hour of breakfafting; after
which, if them was any council to he held, the King met his
Cliiefo, and the common people went to their different occupations
; at noon they dined; and flipped foon after fun-r
fet, ufually retiring to reft two hours after. Though- this
was their common way of living, yet on occaflons of public
rejoicing, or feftivity, they would dance the greateft part of
the night.
They had no method, that was obferved, of meafuring
time but by the height o f the fun .-r—Their feafons were di-»
