colour of the throat) in plumage, and he also remarked that in various specimens the throat
varied from brownish yellow and reddish brown to yellowish ; but he adds that the fact of the
freshness of its plumage is in favour of its validity as a distinct species, and lie accordingly treats
it as specifically separable from Melittophagus bullocki.
But little is on reeord respecting this bird. Br. Vierthaler met with one in company with
Jlf/it/ojjfidfftix bullocki above Khartoum, and, as above stated, Von lleuglin records it from
Southern and Eastern Senaar.
In habits, and doubtless also in nidification, the present species does not differ from Meliilophagas
bullocki.
In the preparation of the above article I have only been able to examine a single specimen,
the bird above described and figured, which is in the British-Museum collection.
